My Story, Part One Hundred Sixty

I’m not quite recovered but things are going well. Had a fast run tonight (four miles, although I did a little bit more since I forgot to turn on my Garmin Forerunner 305 for the first little bit) at a pace of just under 12 minutes a mile–close to race pace for me. My knees are fine but my hamstrings hurt a bit and I’m icing myself down as I write this.

My weight is down–way down, to just over 180. Kind of concerning since Sunday pre century it was 183, which is down from where I’ve been but okay since that’s what I’ve been trying to do. However, three pounds of weight loss in one day, even a day including a 100 mile bike ride, has got to be mostly dehydration, so I’ve been working hard on taking in as much water as possible.

I would be less concerned after two days if my weight had rebounded to 182 or so, but it hasn’t.

The Garmin calculated my total calories burned in a bit over eight hours as 11,039. I have a hard time believing that’s accurate, since an American male is recommended to eat something like 2,500 calories a day–so that means I burnt off almost four days of calories? I ate and drank along the way but of course there’s no way to replace that many calories while on the bike.

We’ll see what story the scale tells me in the morning.
