I Was Correct (Unfortunately)

A few days ago, before I left for Oakland on business, I blogged about how I had All the Makings of a Less Than Stellar Race going on.

Turns out I was correct. My race on Sunday was less than stellar.

That said, it wasn’t awful. I must keep my eyes on the two most important goals I have in any organized event: finish and don’t injure myself–and on those two fronts I was a success.

My time, which is very much secondary, was a lot worse than I was hoping for. I had high hopes to be right at 11 minute miles but I ended up being closer to 12 on this run–sad considering that I’ve been breaking, if just barely, 11 minute miles on my fast hard three mile run days.

On the other hand, my race strategy was much better than it was in the 8K just a few weeks ago–I didn’t go out too hard and after the end of the race, I feel fine–in fact, so fine I think I didn’t go hard enough. I will reconsider this a bit before the Great Aloha Run.

And congrats to my Team Twitter buddies who ran this race: @AlohaJohn, @tadasauce, @bevclemente, and @pineapplejuice, all of whom left me in the dust (totally expected). Let’s rock the GAR in a couple weeks!
