Coming Up: Ford Island 10K

Even though I’ve switched my emphasis from running to cycling at this point in the year, the reality is my next organized event isn’t a ride, it’s a run: the Ford Island Bridge 10K.

I did this run for the first time a year ago. Ford Island is in the middle of Pearl Harbor and is usually off limits to anyone who is not military or a military dependent; however, they occasionally open it up for events, including this run. It starts off downhill crossing the bridge between the rest of O’ahu and Ford Island, takes the runners around virtually the entire island in a circle, then back up (and I do mean up) the bridge to the finish.

It was a pretty tough run, but I was also not well trained nor was I in the best of health (I was having a flare of gouty arthritis just before this run). My time was in excess of 14 minutes per mile then; let’s see how I do this time.

I need to get ready for this; it’s my co-first priority in training right now.
