If I Won’t Take Real Excuses, I Sure Won’t Take Fake Excuses

One of our family dogs died unexpectedly overnight on Friday.

She had been a three time rescue from the Humane Society (we were the final ones to rescue her) so we were never really sure about her age or medical background. She had been having some trachea problems for awhile and had a tough day on Wednesday before she died but seemed 100% fine on Thursday and Friday, then didn’t wake up on Saturday.

So I canceled my blog posts on Uncommon Cents for the weekend (I typically don’t blog here on weekends anyway) but went ahead with the rest of my obligations with heavy heart.

And I trained.

The fact is, Belle’s unexpected passing was an opportunity for a real excuse to skip out on my training. It would have been totally acceptable and understandable for me to say, “Screw it, I’m too torn up, I’m not going out there.”

I wouldn’t take it.

And since I won’t take a real excuse, I better not take any fake ones either.

I miss that dog. But I won’t use that as a reason to not fulfill my commitments. It wouldn’t honor her memory.

And I won’t use lesser reasons either.
