Beating the Heat

I came down with heat exhaustion last week while I was on vacation. A two hour ride at midday, combined with extraordinary heat and humidity and a broken ice maker in our refrigerator to put me in pretty rough shape the next day.

I needed hydration, and in a bad way.

A few days off, a bunch of liquid, and staying indoors really helped a lot.

Cramps, lightheadedness, and nausea were my symptoms. I didn’t seek nor need medical treatment but this was not my first bout either. It seems as I get older I have more issues with this.

Besides staying hydrated, all I can really say is working out early or late in the day seems to be the best method I have of dealing with this–and to stay out of the heat when it really is too hot.
