My Story, Part One Hundred Sixty Three

…and I’m back. Kind of. My aunt has moved in with us, possibly permanently. It’s already been more than a month. That has compressed my time more than I’d like, but my marathon training is largely on target. I’m amazed at how five mile runs are so much easier than I could imagine, and quicker. […]

Struggles to Seventeen

I’ve been quite sporadic in my updates here as of late, in part due to the care needs of my aunt who moved in with us about a month ago. I’ve been able–barely–to keep up with my running schedule. I’ve been doing it, but not as well as I would like. Honestly, getting up to […]

I realize I’ve been scarce (combination of dealing with my aunt’s health and being on call this week), but I thought I’d share with you last Sunday’s sixteen mile run, my longest yet: Started off really well but didn’t end so well. Lots of issues after mile thirteen or so. This week Tuesday I’m going […]

Fifteen!

It was another milestone in my training–this week I ran fifteen miles. It was hot and slow, but it was run. I also threw in a few of the same hills I’ll be facing in the actual marathon. I’m finding that while the numbers are still intimidating, I can actually get these miles done, and […]

This is the most stressful time in my life since my father had his stroke. My aunt has moved in with us, at least for awhile, since her memory is not what it typically is. Whether this is a resolvable delirium or a permanent dementia is not clear, and we won’t know for a few […]

Thirteen!

Amazing myself, I ran thirteen miles today. They were slow and not necessarily comfortable, but I could have done a half marathon today without difficulty. Looks like I’ll be increasing the milage one mile a week on these longs until close to the marathon. Exciting times.

I’m making progress, even if it’s at a price. I’m a bit sore; ran a hard four miles on Tuesday evening, then an easy six tonight. Tuesday was hard in intensity, but easy to do because the terrain was flat, friends were with me, and the weather was nice. Tonight was a different story. It […]

Running on Empty

It kind of felt like it on Tuesday as the Twitter Honolulu folks organized for yet another fun run, this time of four miles on a flat course near Ala Moana, which you can check out here. I am definitely not recovered from the century, even on Wednesday, but the run went quite well, with […]

I’m not quite recovered but things are going well. Had a fast run tonight (four miles, although I did a little bit more since I forgot to turn on my Garmin Forerunner 305 for the first little bit) at a pace of just under 12 minutes a mile–close to race pace for me. My knees […]

And Sometimes My Body Doesn’t Lie to Me

I’m sick. I said this already. I’m trying to push through and I actually had a great hike his morning with a bunch of Twitter friends, but this afternoon I’m definitely not feeling well. It could be that my new workout schedule is leaving me tired. Or that the four days off I have are […]
