Sore

Yes, I’m sore.

I played basketball (the occasional Twitter gathering called #tweeball) on Sunday. While I didn’t injure myself–and neither did anyone else–it’s definitely hard on an aging body.

Hoping when I wake up on Tuesday I’ll feel a lot better.

My Story, Part One Hundred Ninety Five

I’m still not where I want to be. I’m improving in lots of ways–including my weight–but my sugars have been running high and I seem to be more anxious than I can remember being.
To try to counter that, I’m reducing my caffeine intake.
Which is really hard to do when you love Diet Pepsi and coffee [...]

I’m working hard. I’ve been trying to do a little of everything, including bicycle and run. The issue is that a little isn’t a lot, and a lot is what I need to do.
In addition, working hard–meaning more intensity–isn’t quite the same thing as working long–meaning endurance.
I need both, but I need endurance [...]

Running for my Life

While I still (and I think always will) hate running, I do have to admit that it may be saving my life–well, that, cycling, and eating better.
When I was diagnosed with diabetes at age 34, I weighed 265 pounds. As of today, I weigh under 180, headed toward 170. I was breathing hard and while [...]

I have traction, but not enough time. I’ve been letting so many things that need my attention go without my attention for awhile.
Finally, after my eleven day work stretch, I thought I had some traction. In fact, I’m sure of it. I got a bunch of things done on Thursday of this past week and [...]

Just as I was starting to get some traction in my life (including blogging), a large earthquake hit Japan which resulted in a tsunami warning for Hawai’i. Destruction here was minimal, but we did have to evacuate from home to about a mile inland (we live less than 500 feet from the ocean and although [...]

I’m grieving and lost. There are still many unanswered questions about the death of my cousin Mike at a very young age that may or may not be answered in time. Moreover, I’m lost in training. I have no events this month to train for either; in fact, while I have two runs (a 5K [...]

While my cousin hasn’t been buried yet (it’ll be a few weeks apparently), it’s time to get back on the blogging horse. Lots of unanswered questions remain; my cousin was an athlete (a surfer) who was young (in his mid 50s), so this is not a typical situation.
Still grieving, but needing to get back to [...]

Unexpected Passing Leads to Blog Slowdown

I came home on Friday afternoon from work to my sister’s car trouble continuing, my niece’s MSI Wind netbook no longer operating, and the sad, serious news of one of my cousins passing away unexpectedly.
Expect sporadic posts while this is sorted out. My apologies.

I’m recovered, mostly. It was tough to get through the Great Aloha Run the way I did–even walking part of the way–but it wasn’t so tough to just try to recover by resting and working out more passively with more cycling.
And maybe swimming depending on how the week goes.
Running has been rewarding in its own [...]
